The Insider’s Guide to Birmingham City Premier Soccer Team
It’s been an up and down season for Birmingham F.C. in the English Premier League. While it looks as if the football club is going to stay out of relegation as long as they don’t fall apart down the stretch (they are five points above the relegation line with five games left), in terms of competing for a UEFA spot, well, they aren’t even close. With that said, the 2010-11 campaign will go down as a special one for Birmingham as they were able to win their first Carling Cup since 1963, defeating the highly favored Arsenal 2-1. It was the first time that BCFC has taken any type of Premier League hardware since ’63.
In addition to beating Arsenal in the Cup Final, Birmingham has also beaten Chelsea and tied Man U in EPL play, which is pretty impressive for a team that only one year out from relegation. Led by leading scorers Craig Gardner and Nikola Zigic, Birmingham has been able to stay competitive throughout the year, even showing flashes of brilliance. Birmingham just has to take care of business in the last part of the season to stay out of relegation danger, though matches against Liverpool and Tottenham won’t exactly be a walk in the park.
